Galaxy S23 Ultra sounds like an ‘Ultramate’ upgrade

I’m not sure if anyone is paying much attention since it’s still only August, but Galaxy S23 The lineup is shaping up to be one of the biggest upgrades to the series so far like, Ultramate condition

We previously wrote a report that said Samsung might use EV battery technology to increase battery capacity in the Galaxy S23 lineup, then Samsung introduced UFS 4.0 earlier this year with mass production scheduled for 3Q this year, and now, a cool Samsung Likker Plus An outlet in Samsung’s home country of South Korea has reported a major camera sensor upgrade.

Earlier this month, @UniverseEyes was very confident That Samsung will introduce a 200-megapixel sensor with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. According to South Korea Korea IT News, it’s a specific, Samsung contracts with other manufacturers to make select parts to get it up and running. As for this 200MP sensor, only the S23 Ultra name has been dropped, so we’re not expecting this huge sensor to find its way into the smaller Galaxy S23 or S23+.

As my title suggests, the Galaxy S23 Ultra looks like it’s going to be a legitimate upgrade over any current Galaxy S device. If we get a huge battery, super fast storage, and a huge camera, you can take my pre-order money now. Fingers are crossed that this pans out all the way we want.

New Kickstarter: Folding, stackable monitor with built-in docking station

Move setups around: There are stacked screens Or, at least, they’re trying to be Mobile Pixel, maker of folding portable external monitors, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for what it calls Geminis: a stacked pair of 24-inch screens that fold together like a laptop. So far, the campaign has done very, very well.

Despite the Geminos’ clamshell design, it’s meant for a desktop setup rather than a quick coffee-shop laptop session. As it opens, the Geminios slides into a central stand until it opens at an angle (again, like a laptop) or flat, simulating two desktop monitors stacked on top of each other. Mobile Pixel argues that the stacked setup is more ergonomic than its conventional side-by-side counterpart. It also says that Gemini’s folding mechanism prevents a significant gap from separating the two screens and hampering the visual experience.

(Photo: Mobile Pixel)

There are two different versions of Mobile Pixel’s latest creation, Geminios and Geminios X. The Geminos reaches a maximum brightness of 250N and a resolution of 1080p, while the Geminos X has a maximum brightness of 300N and 1440p. Geminos has a refresh rate of 60Hz; Geminos X can reach 75Hz. Part of the Mobile Pixel’s Kickstarter page says that a Geminos X touchscreen version is also available, but that’s not mentioned anywhere else on the page, although a folding touchscreen display like this would likely be a game changer for many.

While I can’t imagine myself using something like this as a writer, I can see stacked screens working well for programmers, designers, architects, storyboard artists, or anyone else who would benefit from a tall display. (Streamers also come to mind, but they can be off at the highest resolution; Samsung’s ridiculously tall Odyssey Arc, though much more expensive, might be a better fit.) With built-in speakers and a docking station with plenty of ports (two HDMI, two (USB-A, a USB-C, an Ethernet, a TF/SD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack) were intended for clean mobile Pixels to work at home.

It hit its mark both figuratively and literally. Although the Mobile Pixel’s Kickstarter campaign was originally intended to raise $25,000, it has reached $1.8 million as of writing and still has a few weeks left. It may owe in part to an endorsement by tech and travel YouTuber iJustine, but regardless, the fact that it hit the promotion goal in 36 minutes is impressive. Whether the technology itself, we have to see.

Android 13’s next beta update gets a release date

A number of readers around these parts are part of the Android beta program and likely running an Android 13 beta before updating to today’s stable build. If you’re curious, it’s a good idea to still be in the Android Beta Program, as a new beta update for Android 13 is coming next week.

On Reddit, the Android team posted on the Android_Beta subreddit to announce the rollout of Android 13 and provide some clear answers about the future of betas. Here’s what we know.

Next Android 13 beta update

The Android 13 beta program will continue and you can stay in it if you want to test the new release. The next Android 13 beta release will bring us back to a quarterly platform release (QPR) testing period, with the first coming in September.

What is a QPR? Well, we started experimenting with Android 12 this year. June’s Android update was a QPR3 and offered tons of tweaks and bug fixes to the platform. Once released to everyone, it’s also a Pixel feature drop update. For Android 13 betas, we’ll start our testing with a similar QPR build. In short, a QPR is a simple platform update, usually a monthly security patch that can offer new features, but also squash all sorts of bugs.

If you’re in the Android beta program, you’ll automatically get the next Android 13 beta in September.

Not enrolling from Android beta

Let’s say you don’t want to continue testing the Android 13 beta build, how do you get out? Pretty simple. Once you’ve received the stable update to Android 13, you’ll need to go to the Android Beta site (here) and click the “Opt Out” button at the bottom of your device. It really is that simple.

There is one thing to remember – if you want to opt-out, you should do so only after receiving the official Android 13 update. As long as you can opt-out before that first Android 13 QPR1 update, you’ll be able to enroll without having to factory reset your phone. If you wait until that first QPR1 update hits and decide to exit the program, you’ll need to completely wipe your phone.

And that’s it! You can continue testing the Android 13 beta build if you want, or you can opt-out of the program once you get the official Android 13 update.

NASA’s space launch system is rolling out ahead of schedule

Pre-launch preparations for NASA’s Artemis 1 mission are well underway. So good, in fact, that the company has pulled the launch date of its Space Launch System (SLS) rocket ahead of schedule. In a blog update, NASA announced that the Orion spacecraft will roll out to its launch pad two days early.

Artemis 1 is NASA’s first lunar mission since LADEE in 2013-2014 and the agency’s first move to return boots to the moon since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. It has two main goals: to build an Artemis base camp on the surface Moon, and a gateway to lunar orbit. Gateway is a space station in lunar orbit, where astronauts will transfer between Orion and the lunar lander on the Artemis mission. In the meantime, the agency will build an outpost on the moon’s surface, to provide space for astronauts to live and work. Artemis Base Camp will include “a modern lunar cabin, a rover and a mobile home.”

In a statement, NASA said it is aiming to lift the SLS and Orion spacecraft to the spaceport’s launch pad 39B on Thursday, August 18. They will also be live-streaming the entire event, starting at 6 PM EDT on Wednesday, August 17, on the NASA Kennedy YouTube channel.

NASA is targeting August 29 for the Artemis 1 launch However, they got backup dates of 2 and 5 September. If all goes well, the Orion capsule will spend about a few weeks in orbit around the moon before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

Girls can go to space too

Artemis Mission stands out for its determination to include women in the mission at every stage. Its mission for inclusion is worth talking about all by itself, but right now I want to talk about the female mannequin of the Orion capsule.

NASA's Space Launch System is taking to the launchpad ahead of schedule! The uncrewed Orion spacecraft will spend several weeks in lunar orbit before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

Two female mannequins, Helga and Zohar, will wear radiation detectors while the Orion capsule is in lunar orbit. Photo: NASA/Frank Michaux

Historically, crash tests have used mannequins shaped and sized like adult men. But women are statistically shorter and shorter than men, and that affects how safety restrictions fit. As a result, although cars are safer than ever, studies show that female bodies are almost twice as likely to be injured in accidents. So it’s really important that NASA is specifically testing their safety gear and PPE (personal protective equipment) across a wide range of body sizes.

For the Artemis 1 mission, NASA is sending two female-bodied mannequins to test safety equipment sized for women. Both mannequins will wear radiation detectors. One of the mannequins is also wearing a special protective vest called an AstroRad.

NASA's Space Launch System is taking to the launchpad ahead of schedule. Here you can see its two mannequin passengers, Helga and Zohar. (Zohar is one of black color.)

NASA’s Zohar mannequin will wear the AstroRad vest on the Artemis 1 mission. Here you can see the AstroRad vest up close. Photo: NASA

In a blog post, NASA explained that “despite their names Helga and Zohar and sharing the trip, their missions will be different – Zohar will wear an AstroRad vest, while Helga will not. The female forms were chosen because women are generally more sensitive to the effects of space radiation. “

Ahead of schedule — for now

Artemis 1 is the first in an ambitious series of lunar missions. A second flight, Artemis II, will carry astronauts instead of astronauts when it launches into lunar orbit in May 2024. And while Artemis II will remain in orbit around the moon, Artemis III will land on the moon’s surface sometime in 2025.

Although the Space Launch System is two days ahead of its current schedule, it has been repeatedly delayed since its launch in 2012. Effective nationwide employment program. But NASA continues to press on with its lunar missions, just as it continues to build toward a strong commercial presence in low-Earth orbit.

NASA has been cultivating and funding private and academic space endeavors for more than a decade now. They started their commercial crew and commercial cargo missions because the International Space Station won’t live forever. Long before Russia began to mourn the global space sector, it was clear that the ISS would need a successor. But as humanity reaches for the stars, we too will need a pit stop on the moon. Artemis Flight is the first part of that process.

The first Galaxy Z Flip 4 color goes on sale

The entire suite of new Galaxy products is up for pre-order starting Wednesday, and we keep checking to see if any of them are on sale. So far, there isn’t much beyond a single online exclusive color of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, while the Fold 4 and both Galaxy Watch 5 watches can still be had with launch day deliveries on August 26.

The first color to go on sale for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is the “Navy” colorway. The version pre-configured with Navy is now listed as “out of stock,” and if you try to use the bespoke tool to capture a Flip 4 fully in Navy, it’ll be sold out there, too. Interestingly, if you do a flip 4 of the Bespoke tool and only have the navy as a panel, you get a 3-4 week estimate.

The only other item with even a slight delay is the Boca Burgundy Fold 4, but it seems to be sticking to the advertised 3-4 week delivery. I actually wouldn’t consider it much of a delay.

Whatever the case here, I have to admit that I’m surprised that newer Samsung devices don’t sell more or with extended shipping times. As of now, all four of the main Flip 4 colors will arrive on time (see here), three main Fold 4 colors (see here) and the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro in all configurations (see here).

Compare this launch to the Galaxy S22 from earlier in 2022 and they couldn’t have hit more differently. Samsung’s dates for exclusive online colors of the S22 Ultra began to slip almost immediately, which we know firsthand because of the team’s struggle to land one. Dates are further removed, with estimates ranging from a week, to a full month or even longer.

We’ll keep an eye on shipping over the next week or so to see how this launch pans out. Will things start to catch up with the launch of the Galaxy S22 or are the minor improvements to this year’s foldable line-up not enough to get people to bite? In my first few days with the Flip 4, I can tell you that the phone is a lot like the Flip 3, but that doesn’t mean I’m not enjoying the hell out of it.

Google Fiber started its first expansion in 2015

Google Fiber has woken up from its slumber, and that could be good news for all of us. The Alphabet subsidiary has barely expanded its ultra-fast gigabit Internet service since it was spun off from Google in 2015, but CEO Dinny Jain said the company is now focused on “building more momentum” with expansion into five different states.

Unlike high-speed Internet from companies like Comcast, Google Fiber relies on delivering new lines to homes. It’s an expensive process that requires working with public utilities and local governments, but Google Fiber has refined its process over the past few years, identifying which strategies work and which don’t. For example, it will not tape the cable to the sidewalk to save time.

In the past year, Google Fiber has built more than the previous few years combined, and now it’s ready to expand. The service will go live in multiple cities in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska and Nevada over the next few years. This includes some previously announced but delayed expansions to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mesa, Arizona. The company has identified these areas as underserved by high-speed internet

Jain has kept a low profile since taking over Google Fiber in 2018, but there hasn’t been much to talk about. After years of losing money on fiber rollouts, parent company Alphabet seems to want Fiber to stand on its own. In fact, Jain admitted in an interview with Reuters that fiber cannot survive on the merits of “a rich parent’s wallet”.

Credit: Rafe Swann/Getty Images

Even if you’re not in one of the new Google Fiber markets, and most aren’t, there may still be benefits. When fiber was introduced in 2010, gigabit service was almost unheard of in the US. It was a bold move to begin competing with established ISPs, and analysts speculated that Google’s big talk encouraged some of these players to step up their game. Jain, who was formerly an executive at Time Warner Cable confirmed. “We were very paranoid,” he says.

Google Fiber was never going to be the solution to the crappy ISPs we hoped it would be back in 2010 — the time to solve that problem with fiber is probably past. With the expansion of 5G technology, it is possible to provide gigabit speeds to a community without having to lay new fiber optic cables. Wireless service reliability is still hit and miss, but it’s improved in leaps and bounds since Google returned to deploying Fiber. Wireless service is also part of the plan under Fiber’s Webpass brand. This is a secondary priority now, but may become more important in the coming years.
