Apple is expected to announce the new device at its WWDC23 event on June 5 but we don’t know exactly what.
Now, a new leak suggests that at least three new Macs are on the way, though they could be variations on the same machine.
A report by MacRumors Twitter cites that new identifiers have been found for specific Macs alongside ethe M2 and M2 Pro Mac minis. Find my configuration they suggest they may not be portable Macs.
The new identifiers are Mac14,8, Mac14,13, and Mac14,14, and they appear in a list alongside Mac14,3 and Mac14,12, identifiers for the latest M2 and M2 Pro Mac mini models. Apple’s list of configuration files deals with overriding “separation monitoring”, suggesting that these may be desktop Mac models that don’t need to be actively tracked by Find My to separate them from users like portable Macs.
This is interesting because we expect Apple to announce a new 15-inch MacBook Air, which will likely require such separation precautions.
Apple may finally announce the new Mac Pro, the first with Apple silicon. But it is not expected to be announced yet. The same goes for an updated Mac Studio, which makes this latest news all the more interesting.
Apple’s WWDC event is expected to bring an announcement of the software that will power the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV in late 2023 and well into 2024.
Mac14,8, Mac14,13 and Mac14,14 find my configuration. I think they’re on the list of devices where “You left your device behind” should be disabled, so they’re probably desktops (Mac Studio?).
