Did Google fix it?

As we end the 6-month anniversary of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro launches, I’m sitting here holding this cloudy white model in my hand and wondering if Google got it all right. Of course there are indicators that it suggests at least some success, yet I can’t help but feel the frustration that comes from our readers and others in the Pixel community.

If we go back to our reviews about the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, there’s no question that Tim and I both enjoy using each device. I called the Pixel 6 Pro a “great flagship” and the team was not ashamed of the cheap Pixel 6 being the “clear winner”. The few reviews we offer focus on size, small display complaints and, of course, awesome fingerprint readers. Other than that, we’ve generally said that you should buy these phones.

As expected, as Google always does after launching its new phones to the public, the world has received their pre-orders and the tone around both phones has changed rapidly. From network connectivity and heat concerns to software drains, people have had problems with software. Everyone confirmed that the fingerprint reader was awesome.

Pixel 6 Pro

December to January certainly didn’t help the phone’s reputation, as Google whipped up the first Pixel feature drop for their new phone, leaving owners who had initially upgraded with serious issues. They didn’t acknowledge the problems for about a month, dragged out the update files too late and then took a few more weeks to issue a mega-bug fixer. Things haven’t been great since then, with the March feature drop being delayed for the Pixel 6 line and the update front.

Now we’re sitting here a few days away from getting the April update on time and near that 6-month mark. Complaints of new bugs seem to be limited, so this could be a sign that Google is finding some stable ground. Or maybe people have moved on now that Samsung’s new phone is here? Anyway, the Pixel 6 world is very quiet at the moment, which I can only be a good thing.

After dancing between the Pixel 6 Pro and several review devices over the past few months, my general thought is that this phone is still very good. At one point, after seeing the update delay and seeing the never ending complaints of bugs, I was worried that our initial recommendation was a bad one. I’m not sure I’m feeling that way today.

Since the end of February, I have reviewed the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Motorola Edge + (2022), and OnePlus 10 Pro. I spent a lot of time with the smallest Galaxy S22. Did you know I came back to use the phone? Pixel 6 Pro.

Pixel 6 Pro

The Pixel 6 Pro still offers a camera that I trust the most, software experience that I like more than others, flashy performance and great heptics and tough battery life. Of course, the phone is still too big and the curved display is stupid, but even the fingerprint reader suggested that it should do so after the 3rd or 4th update of Google. And look, the 899 price for this phone still makes it the best value in Android, at least in my opinion.

OverClocker LN2 takes Intel Core i9-12900KS to 7.45GHz

Intel’s flagship Core i9-12900KS CPU recently competed with AMD’s V-Cache-enabled Ryzen 5800X3D. Although the two chips will soon face a real-world gaming benchmark, overclockers are already celebrating a field day with Intel’s latest Silicon. The title feature of this CPU is that it is a binned 12900K CPU, so it has been pre-selected to offer the most headroom from Intel’s Silicon stock. Off the shelf it offers a two-core boost clock of 5.5GHz and an all-core watch of 5.2GHz. This is slightly higher than the Vanilla 12900K’s maximum 5.2GHz boost watch. These kind of tied chips are exciting for extreme overclockers, and one of them has already taken Intel’s new CPU at an insane clock speed of 7,450.62MHz using liquid nitrogen (LN2). For the unaltered, LN2 is about 320 degrees Fahrenheit Below zeroSo it can keep a CPU quite cool.

The MSI team overclocker TSAIK was able to carry Intel’s chip up to 7.45GHz, but it only had to use a P-core to do so. According to Tom’s hardware, this is a 35 percent increase over the typical 1C / 2T overclock. Its CPU was stuck on an MSI MEG Unify-X motherboard, a Z690 board designed for extreme overclocking. Proof of this is only two DIMM slots and 19 + 2 power phase. It is not clear which model of memory sticks was used, as the HWBot leaderboard only lists “Samsung”. Although TSAIK topped the list for maximum overclockers, a glance at the HWBot standings shows that another overclocker holds the highest benchmark record.

You can see that an overclocker called Slave claimed a clean sweep of almost all records. Had it not been for Semann in SuperPay, he would have held every record except the highest overlock number. Slave used an ASRock Z690 Aqua OC motherboard to achieve this feat, which set him three world records and three world number one.

What this kind of overclocking achieves is, in addition to bragging on the right, some crazy benchmark numbers. In the Cinebench R20 test, the vanilla 12900K score is around 10K, according to AnandTech, the overclocked version hits above 15K. In Geekbench 5’s multi-core test, the stock racked 12900K 18.5K points, the Super-Child 12900Ks hit 27.8K. Get the latest Android 12 beta updates on your Google Pixel

Hey, Google has just released a new Android 12 beta update that you can try on your Pixel phone. This is the Android 12 QPR3 program, which will be a big update in June after we get there (more on that), but if you want to test that level build now, you can.

Although previous QPR3 1.1 updates were only for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, this QPR3 beta 2 build is for all supported Pixel phones. If you own a Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 5a, Pixel 5, or Pixel 6, you can pick it up now.

How to get Android 12 QPR3 Beta 2

The easiest way to get these new and early Android 12 beta updates is through the Android beta program. If you are not registered in that beta and want to try QPR3, you can go to the official Android beta website and register your device. Once registered, your device will receive OTA. If you are already registered, you can go to Settings and try dragging the update (Settings> System> System Update).

If you are a little more aware, you can manually flash the system image or QPR3’s OTA. First download the required file (factory image, OTA), then follow our instructions on how to flash here or here.

What’s new in Android 12 QPR3 2?

Google does not usually go into a ton of details when publishing such updates, and this is again true with QPR3 Beta 2. What they’ve said so far is “the latest April monthly release changes and security patches, as well as additional bug fixes and optimizations for performance and stability.”

We’re flashing it now, and we’ll report back to you if we find anything new that you should know about.

Effect of Log4j Weakness on GFI

Kerio Connect Weakness Mitigation

Log4j is used as part of the chat function in Kerio Connect. We recommend that all Kerio Connect users Temporarily disable chat function In software.

To disable chat on Kerio Connect:

  1. Go to the configuration.
  2. Click on Domains.
  3. Double click on the desired domain.
  4. Find the “Chat” section in the General tab.
  5. Select “Enable chat on Kerio Connect client”. Options
  6. Repeat the steps above for all your email domains

Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes are coming to PC and Consoles

It’s easy to dismiss the growing popularity of the classic game remaster – after all, why create something new when you can sell something that already exists? That said, some of the most beloved games of previous generations deserve to be updated for modern hardware, and Max Payne is one of them. Rockstar Games and Remedy Entertainment have announced remakes of the first two games of the series: Max Paine and Max Paine: The Fall of Max Paine.

We’ve seen a lot of old titles resurface over the last few years, including but not remotely limited to Warcraft III, Command and Conquer, Mass Effect, and Diablo II. Some of these projects have been more successful than others, but it is safer to start a new franchise with content that people like. And that brings us to Max Payne, who I and many others played with obsession in the early 2000’s.

The writing is a bit more dramatic, especially by today’s standards, but that’s what you’d expect from a hard-boiled detective story. Max Payne Games was a third-person shooter with bullet-time mechanics, allowing players to dive into the air at slow speeds as they fired rounds after rounds at enemies. The first game was released just two years after the original Matrix movie, and it undoubtedly benefited from a similar battle style. You can install a mode to mimic the movie’s famous lobby scene.

Remedy will create a remake on the Northlight engine, the most famously used in the 2019 control. This “physically based render system” seems to be a great match for Max Payne, who had extensive physics for a game of his era. I actually remember being shot from different guns to the floor by the way Looked They are as different as floating on the side of the camera in slow motion. Apple is no longer signing iOS 15.4 after the release of iOS 15.4.1

Apple is already testing iOS 15.5 in the public beta program for developers as well, and it’s only a matter of time before that update becomes available to everyone. Once that happens we can expect Apple to stop signing iOS 15.4.1 – although it is still not expected to be for a few weeks.

Verizon “brand chat” attacks Galaxy S20 6

An update to Verizon’s Galaxy S20 line has been prime this week and it offers more than just the usual security patches. In addition to current security, Verizon has added something called “Brand Chat” as a way to keep in touch with the companies of your choice.

The Verizon brand lists Chat as an official feature of their Advanced Messaging, which is their own RCS client. They describe it as “giving your messaging app the ability to text with your favorite company’s chatbots.” They further note that those “conversations are stored in your messages so that you can read them when needed.”

What is that one thing man? No, but it sounds a lot like a feature that carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) were doing big banking as part of the failed cross carrier messaging service they planned to do a few years ago. One of the reasons they wanted to create an RCS world outside of Google was the idea that they could join brands and businesses to connect directly with customers. It sounded like hell. Apparently, Verizon still plans for that idea through their own advanced messaging.

The update improves performance and provides the April Android security patch.

On a somewhat related note, the Galaxy S20 FE is getting an update this week on One UI 4.1 with build SP1A.210812.016.G781VSQU6FVC1. The 4.1 update has hit most Samsung devices in recent weeks, bringing with it “live sharing on Google Duo, RAM Plus, app cast on Smart View, game booster labs, and camera and gallery enhancements.” It also adds a March security patch.

Apache Log4j Weakness

Also known as Log4Shell, the Apache Log4j vulnerability was the December Cybersecurity News Story and 2021 and probably the most significant of 2022. An error in the widely used Java logging library, it was first published on 9 December. The vulnerability was first discovered in Minecraft and allowed the application user to execute unauthorized remote code due to its use of the Java logging library.

Log4j is an open source software from the Apache Software Foundation. It records errors and routine system events and then communicates diagnostic messages about them to users and system administrators. An example of Log4j in action is when you click on a broken link or type a URL incorrectly, you get a 404 error message in your browser. The web server tells you that there is no such page and records events in a log using Log4j.

Log4j is the most popular Java logging library. It is used in many systems, including web applications, cloud platforms and email services. The Log4j library is embedded in every Internet application or service we know, including Amazon, Twitter, and Microsoft.

Due to the ubiquity of the Log4j library, the difficulty of manually fixing it, and the ease with which Log4Shell is used, the impact of vulnerabilities could be felt for years to come. Not surprisingly, it has been assigned the highest possible risk score – an intensity of 10.

Meanwhile, thousands of attempts to exploit this vulnerability were recorded just hours after it was released. This is certainly not uncommon because bad actors often want to exploit a newly revealed flaw before it can be massively remedied. Although in this case, the widespread use of Log4j and the fact that many companies do not know that part of their network implies that cybercriminals may have an unusually long window to try and maximize errors.

Users and administrators are requested to immediately apply mitigation controls, including the Log4j upgrade.

DHS announces cybersecurity bug bounty program

The US Department of Homeland Security has launched a bug bounty program to help identify and correct cybersecurity vulnerabilities in selected external-oriented DHS systems. First unveiled by the DHS Secretary at the Bloomberg Technology Summit, the ‘Hack DHS’ program will pay between $ 500 and 000 5000 depending on the severity of the vulnerability.

Unlike regular bounty programs that are open to all, participating researchers will be verified first before being invited to access the DHS system. Hack the DHS is based on the success of Hack the Pentagon, a pioneering federal program launched in 2016 that found more than 7,000 security loopholes.

Hack the DHS will have three phases, all of which will run until 2022. First, a virtual assessment where hackers are invited to analyze the DHS system. Second, a live hacking event. Third, vulnerability identification, review, and planning for future bounty programs. The program will be governed by the rules set by DHS’s CISA so that participants have to disclose all the information they have discovered which can be used to reduce and correct vulnerabilities they find.

The goal of the program will not only be the basis for future bug bounty plans but also serve as a blueprint that government agencies can use to strengthen their cybersecurity resilience.

Like most tech-savvy people, we pride ourselves on our ability to successfully Google anything. Still, there are times when, for lack of a good word, un-Google qualifies. Maybe it’s a dudad you’ve found in your kitchen that you want to replace but don’t know what to call it. Or you want to know if the shirt you are photographing comes in a different color. To address this, Google now lets you combine words with images when searching for things. Previously you could search with a photo, but this is the first time you can add words to your query to improve results.

According to The Verge, Google is now launching this feature in beta for its Google Apps. It is available for both Android and iOS. It is part of the Google Lens technology that the company first unveiled in September last year. The process is very simple. First, fire up the app, tap the camera icon, and either take a photo or upload one. From there it determines what the object is and offers a number of “tabs” such as shopping, searching, dining, reading, and more. The clear part is that you can take a picture of something, then tap “Add to search” and change your results. For example I took a photo of my fractal design case, which marked it as a black PC, but not a fractal case. I then added “white” to the results and it showed me a variety of white ATX cases. It should be noted that this technology works best in things that you cannot describe, or you can only describe in vague terms. It’s definitely not perfect. It accurately detected my Logitech G502 mouse, but when I added “Wireless” to the search it showed me random rats. I also uploaded a picture of the ribs, and thought it was a war fly. A.

While this new feature is easy for most shoppers, Google representatives say the potential uses far outweigh the risks.
