Sony reportedly has a new handheld PS in the works, but there’s a big catch

Sony is said to be working on a new portable gaming system, but those hoping for a PSP or Vita revival are sure to be disappointed.

Because the new handheld is nothing like a traditional portable gaming machine. Instead, it’s little more than a remote play device for the PS5.

That’s according to a new report from Insider Gaming that says the console will need a constant internet connection to work, while a PS5 will host games. This is not a cloud gaming device, you will need that PS5 and games to work

The report states that the machine will have an 8-inch screen with controls similar to the PS5 DualSense controller, for obvious reasons.

As for the console’s physical features, early prototypes show that the console will look a lot like the PlayStation 5 controller, but with a giant 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center. The device sports triggers for adaptive haptic feedback and will include everything you’d expect from a handheld – volume buttons, speakers, an audio input jack, etc.

Dubbed the Q Lite, the machine is believed to be in the QA stage of development now and will ship ahead of the PS5 Pro – a console that is believed to be slated for a holiday 2024 unveiling.
